Sega released an 8bit version of Bayonetta on Steam on April 1. The game is free to download and really works. The achievements that can be obtained in the game appear to refer to a website with a countdown that counts down to April 11.

Sega put the 8bit version of Bayonetta on Steam as an April 1 joke, but it also seems to be the start of a teaser campaign surrounding a new release. By combining the images that belong to the Steam achievements, the url www.sega.com/14111219 becomes visible.

There is a timer on that website that counts down to Tuesday 11 April. The numbers in the URL refer to the character’s date of birth in the Bayonetta games: December 19, 1411. In the background is part of an image previously used to promote the Bayonetta games.

It’s unclear what exactly Sega is counting down to, but releasing the 8bit version on Steam may indicate that the publisher is bringing the Bayonetta games to PC. Bayonetta appeared in 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In 2014, the game also appeared on the Nintendo Wii U, along with successor Bayonetta 2, which only came out on the Nintendo Wii U.
