Security Firms McAfee and FireEye Join Together as Trellix
Security companies McAfee and FireEye are changing their name to Trellix. The name change is the result of the merger of the two companies. The company will mainly focus on extended detection and response.
The name change comes shortly after McAfee was acquired by investment firm Symphony Technology Group. In the summer of last year, that company also bought the network security part of security company FireEye. The two companies will now collaborate under the name Trellix, the companies write. The two companies have been working together since October.
Trellix says it will mainly focus on XDR ecosystems in the future. That stands for Extended Detection and Response, a principle that uses multiple tools and technologies that are more tailored to a company. XDR is a principle that responds more proactively to potential threats, rather than reactively like antivirus software does, for example.
Bryan Palma, the former FireEye vice president, will become Trellix’s CEO. Not all of McAfee’s technology is included in the deal. The Enterprise Secure Service Edge portion, which includes Cloud Access Security Broker, Secure Web Gateway and Zero-Trust Network Access, will be relocated later this quarter, Palma told VentureBeat.
