Security firm FireEye acquires Russian ‘state malware’ discoverer
Security company FireEye acquires industry peer iSight. Over the past year, iSight has been in the news several times with discoveries of malware that can be traced back to Russia. FireEye is currently paying more than 250 million euros for the acquisition.
Last spring, iSight released the discovery that Russia had been spying on the West for years through an exploit in Office program PowerPoint. The US company recently released a report on malware in Ukrainian power plants, which also allegedly came from the Russian state.
FireEye is also paying $275 million for the acquisition of iSight. For the time being, iSight will continue to offer its services to its own customers. It is not FireEye’s first major acquisition. Last year, the company acquired Mandiant for $1 billion.
