Second agent pleads guilty in aftermath of Silk Road case
After an agent had already pleaded guilty to stealing bitcoins from the criminal proceeds of Silk Road, a second police officer made a deal with the judiciary. He confesses to extorting convicted Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht.
Carl Force, a former DEA agent, admits he extorted Ross Ulbricht, who has been sentenced to life in prison under the alias “French Maid,” Bloomberg reports. In exchange for money, he would have promised him information about the ongoing investigation into the closed Silk Road, a free trade place on the Tor network where mainly narcotics were sold. Force would have received more than $ 400,000 in bitcoins, converted more than 355,000 euros, according to the American justice.
The ex-agent has formally confessed to having been guilty of money laundering and extortion. Through the plea, Force hopes to get a lesser sentence, although he initially denied that he had taken money from Ulbricht.
Last week, Officer Shaun Bridges pleaded guilty to theft. He admitted to stealing bitcoins from the seized bitcoins from Silk Road. It would be an amount of more than 722,000 euros.
