SEAT will release an electric hatchback on Volkswagen’s MEB platform in 2020
SEAT will release the so-called el-Born sometime in 2020. This is a fully electrically powered hatchback that seems to be somewhere between the Ibiza and the Leon in terms of size. The concept car will go into production next year and will be based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform.
SEAT reports that the el-Born will have a 62 kWh battery, which allows the vehicle to reach a range of up to 420 km in accordance with the WLTP standard. There is support for 100kW fast charging, which takes 47 minutes to charge the battery from 0 to 80 percent.
Named after a neighborhood in Barcelona where the vehicle was designed, the car has a power output of 204 horsepower and completes a spin from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. The manufacturer does not report anything about the torque.
According to SEAT, the el-Born will be equipped with advanced functionality for autonomous driving. This is a system classified as level 2, whereby the driver does not always have to keep his hands on the steering wheel during parts of a journey.
The el-Born is one of the first vehicles presented that will be based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform, the platform that will be used for a new generation of electric cars from the Volkswagen Group. SEAT is also part of this.
SEAT says that the el-Born is currently still a concept car, but that the vehicle is expected to hit the market sometime in 2020. A price has not yet been announced.
