Seagate Releases 2TB and 512GB Expansion Cards for Xbox Series Consoles
Seagate, in collaboration with Microsoft, is releasing new Expansion Cards for the Xbox Series X and S. In addition to the existing memory expansion of 1TB, there will be variants with 2TB and 512GB storage capacity. The suggested retail prices are $400 and $140.
The 512GB expansion card will appear in mid-November and the 2TB version will be released in early December, Microsoft reports. This concerns availability in the United States, the company has not yet announced anything about other markets.
With a suggested retail price of $400, the 2TB card is slightly cheaper per gigabyte than the 1TB version, which has a suggested retail price of $220. The 512GB version is more expensive per gigabyte. In all cases, Seagate’s proprietary storage modules are more expensive than comparable NVMe SSDs. The storage modules have the same speed of 2.4GB/s as the internal memory of Xbox Series consoles.
For now, only Seagate is releasing the storage modules for the Xbox Series X and S. The manufacturer does this in collaboration with Microsoft. It is not yet known whether expansion modules from other manufacturers will become available in the long term.
