Seagate launches an 8TB external drive that doesn’t require an adapter
Seagate has presented the Innov8, an external HDD with a capacity of 8TB that can be powered via USB-C and therefore does not require a separate power supply via a wall socket. The external hard drive therefore only needs one cable to function.
According to Seagate, it is the first 8TB drive that can get its power from USB-C and does not require an adapter and wall socket. The manufacturer does not provide further details about the disc. The housing is made of aluminum and is 208x123mm in size and 36mm thick. The disc weighs 1.5 kg.
The USB-C port works with USB 3.1. According to the specifications, the external hdd requires Windows 8 or higher, but according to the manual, the product must also function normally in combination with Windows 7. In addition, the hdd can handle OS X 10.11 or higher. In addition, a USB-C port on the PC is required for the drive to function. That port has been on devices such as Apple’s MacBook and Google’s Pixel laptop since last year. The Innov8 should be released next month and cost 399 euros.
