Seagate has started providing hard drives with a capacity of 8TB to companies interested in using them. Customers will have the opportunity to test the hard drives, according to the manufacturer.

Seagate CEO Steve Luczo said in a conference call with investors and analysts that his company has begun providing samples of hard drives with 8TB of storage, Guru 3D noted. Seagate has sent so-called customer development units to large customers and providers of cloud storage services, although it is not clear which companies are involved. They will be given the opportunity to test the 8TB HDDs in the near future.

Furthermore, Seagate did not say when it plans to release its hard drives with 8TB storage and at what price they will be on the market. Also, nothing has been announced about the exact specifications of the hard drive, such as the read and write speeds.

Earlier on Monday, Western Digital announced that it is coming with new hard drives in the Red series that have a storage capacity of 5TB and 6TB. Seagate also sells hard drives with such a capacity.
