Seagate Announces 12TB Desktop and NAS HDDs
Seagate has expanded its line of hard drives in the IronWolf and IronWolf Pro series for NAS systems and the BarraCuda Pro line for consumer desktops with 12TB models. These are drives with pmr platters in a helium-filled housing.
The three 12TB HDDs with 3.5″ chassis work at 7200rpm and are equipped with a SATA600 interface and cache of 256MB. Seagate classifies the BarraCuda Pro and IronWolf models under the Guardian Series. 10TB models in the same series from last year are drives with pmr platters and housings filled with helium.
Both Seagate itself and WD previously released 12TB drives, but they were aimed at the enterprise market. To our knowledge, the 12TB BarraCuda Pro models are the first consumer-facing hard drives with this storage capacity.
