Seagate’s internal roadmaps show that the company plans to launch 14TB and 16TB HDDs within 18 months. The company also aims to sell a 20TB model in 2020.

PCWorld writes that the information was disclosed during a conference call with shareholders. The company already has a 12TB drive ready, which is being distributed to partners for testing. Seagate CEO Stephen Luczo says feedback on the drives has been positive.

Seagate isn’t the only company working on drives with more than 10TB of storage. Earlier, Western Digital announced that it is sampling a 12TB HDD from companies and is working on a 14TB drive. Both Seagate and WD drives are intended for the business market.

Hard drives are rapidly losing market share to SSDs. They are gradually being phased out in consumer products. Hard drive manufacturers are therefore placing increasing emphasis on hard drives for the server market, where they can serve as relatively inexpensive mass storage.
