Scythe Introduces Apsalus Water Cooler
Japanese hardware manufacturer Scythe has released a closed system water cooler based on Asetek’s design. The Scythe cooler is of course maintenance-free and comes with Scythe’s own 120mm fan.
The so-called closed-loop water coolers from OEM manufacturer Asetek are known, perhaps not in name but in appearance, among consumers who buy water coolers. AMD, Antec, Corsair and Intel, among others, use Asetek’s design for their ‘branded’ water coolers. The Japanese manufacturer Scythe has now also joined the list: the company brings the Scythe Apsalus III-120 from.
That company supplies its own 120mm Hayabusa fan. The fan rotates at 1200rpm and produces 24.5dBA of sound pressure. Asetek’s fourth generation is used for the water pump and cooling block: in this version the water inlet is placed centrally on the block, flanked by two outlets. That new design, which was published at the end of October announcedshould result in better water flow.
As usual, the cooler comes with a 120mm radiator, Asetek’s third generation, which is made of aluminum. Flexible water pipes of 32.6 centimeters long provide the connection between pump and radiator and the whole weighs 600 grams, including fan. The cooler is suitable for all current sockets from AMD and Intel, although socket lga775 is no longer supported. The cooler would cost about 65 euros.
