Screenshots show web interface Microsoft xCloud for Windows 10, iOS and iPadOS
Screenshots of what would be the web interface of Microsoft’s cloud gaming service have surfaced. That web interface should work under Windows 10, iOS and iPadOS. Microsoft plans to test access to game streaming via browsers starting this spring.
The screenshots show the label ‘Cloud Gaming BETA’. Games work full screen, claims The Verge. The menu contains recommended games, recently played games and games available through Game Pass Ultimate. This is an internal test for Microsoft employees, the site noted. There is no public beta yet.
That should come this spring, Microsoft said earlier. The step is necessary, because Apple does not allow apps that can stream games from the cloud in the App Store. Only games that users have run on their own consoles are allowed. Users of an iPhone or iPad can access the service via the browser.
Additionally, web access is coming to Windows 10 as part of the Xbox app. The current web beta only works on Chromium-based browsers, such as Google Chrome and Microsoft’s own Edge browser. It is unknown whether this will also be the case with a final release.
Since last year, Microsoft has been offering game streaming through its Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Currently, that only works with Android devices. The service was called Project xCloud during the test phase, but since its release there is no longer a specific name and Microsoft only talks about cloud gaming.
