Screenshots show new Gmail interface

Screenshots of a new interface for Gmail have surfaced. It is clear from the pictures that the new interface will have more empty space, which should probably improve the overview. In addition, the navigation bar on the left has been adjusted and Hangouts has been repositioned.

The images were posted online by Geek.com, which does not disclose its source. The images show an interface that has a lot more empty space compared to the current one. In addition, the navigation bar on the left is shown as ‘fly-in’, so it is not present by default. At the top is a large blue bar that spans the entire width of the interface.

Hangouts has been moved to the right side of the screen and is hidden under a button. A large round button is placed at the bottom right of the interface. This opens, among other things, the possibility to write a new e-mail. In addition, there is a ‘remind me’ button and a number of other buttons whose function is not shown in the images.

The images also show that there is a built-in option to pin e-mail messages. There is also a function to temporarily mark emails as read. These features were previously discovered in a test version of Gmail for Android.

It is still unclear whether and when Google wants to introduce the new interface for Gmail. It’s possible that the new interface is just an experiment. The fact that a number of features were already discovered in a mobile test version makes it likely that they will eventually be released to the general public.
