Screenshots show Android 13 features

Screenshots have emerged showing Android 13, codenamed Tiramisu. The screenshots show that Google is working on a number of new features. For example, apps must have prior permission from users to be able to send notifications.

One of the new features of Android 13 is that apps to send notifications must request permission from users, just as is already the case with apps that want access to, among other things, the camera, location and contact list of users. When users start an app for the first time, they have to give the app explicit permission to send notifications. XDA Developers, which publishes the screenshots, expects that with apps for Android 12 or older, that permission is already granted automatically.

Furthermore, a setting is added that allows users to adjust the language per app. This eliminates the need to change the entire system language if people want to use a specific app in a different language, and that app doesn’t already have a built-in language selection menu. Finally, the screenshots show a new option to customize the layout of the clock on the lock screen. According to XDA Developers, this feature may be available sooner, in Android 12L.

The screenshots come from a “very early” version of Android 13, according to XDA Developers. The site therefore warns that it is not certain that all discovered functions will be present in the first Developer Preview of Tiramisu next year.
