RimWorld 1.0 will be released on October 17, after the sci-fi colonization game has been available through Steam Early Access for five and a half years. The game uses artificial intelligence to generate a story.

The developer, Ludeon Studios, announces that RimWorld 1.0 is much the same as beta 19, but with many bug fixes. Players playing beta 18 or 19 without mods can update to the new 1.0 version and take their save games with them.

According to the makers, RimWorld is inspired by the game Dwarf Fortress and sci-fi series Firefly. Players start with three survivors on a planet and build their colony from there. The settlers all have a personality and are developing, for example they enter into relationships and can also break them.

Throughout the game, players will encounter random events that are woven into a story by the AI Storyteller. There are several storytellers to choose from, such as Randy Random, Cassandra Classic and Phoebe Chillax.

RimWorld started as a Kickstarter project in 2013. A campaign raised around €180,000. In January this year, the studio announced that one million copies of the game had already been sold. The game costs 28 euros on Steam.
