Sandisk will release two 256GB micro SD cards later this year
Sandisk announces the arrival of two micro-SD cards with a storage capacity of 256GB. The Ultra version will be released in August and a faster Extreme version will be available at the end of 2016. The latter offers a read speed of up to 100MB/s and a write speed of up to 90MB/s.
The 256GB memory card in the Sandisk Ultra series achieves speeds of up to 95MB/s, but the manufacturer does not specify whether this concerns the read or write speed. Presumably, the writing speed with this cheaper memory card is considerably lower than with the Extreme version.
According to Sandisk, the cards are water resistant. It will take some time before the small, large-capacity memory cards are actually for sale. The Sandisk Ultra variant is available worldwide from August for a suggested retail price of 149.99 euros and in the last quarter of this year the faster Extreme version will be on the market for a suggested retail price of 199.99 euros.
Samsung announced a 256GB micro SD card in May with read and write speeds of up to 90 and 95MB/s. The South Korean manufacturer asks 249 euros for its ticket, which it was stated that it would be available from June.
