Samyang releases 50mm f/1.2 lens for Canon DSLRs for 999 euros

Samyang has announced a 50mm f/1.2 non-autofocus lens with a Canon EF mount. According to the manufacturer, the lens is suitable for cameras with a 50-megapixel resolution. From March, the 50 mm f/1.2 is for sale for 999 euros.

The optical design of the Samyang XP 50mm f/1.2 consists of eleven elements in eight groups and the diaphragm has nine blades. Focusing is possible from 45 centimeters, measured from the sensor surface. The lens weighs 1300 grams, including the lens hood. The length is 117.4mm and the maximum diameter is 93mm. 86mm filters fit on the thread.

The Samyang XP 50mm f/1.2 is the third lens in the XP series. In 2016, Samyang already released an 85mm f/1.2 and a 14mm f/2.4 in the same series. The XP lenses are intended for cameras with a very high resolution, such as the Canon EOS 5Ds and the 5Ds R. According to the manufacturer, the glass is also suitable for filming in 8k resolution.

Transcontinenta, importer of Samyang in the Benelux, says that the 50mm f/1.2 lens will be available from the beginning of March for a suggested retail price of 999 euros.
