Samyang introduces 75mm f/1.8 lens for Sony FE mount cameras
Samyang is releasing a 75mm f/1.8 autofocus lens suitable for Sony mirrorless cameras with a full-frame sensor. The lens, which costs 429 euros, has a Custom Switch to adjust the function of the focus ring.
The Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 FE lens has autofocus, but also a focus ring for manual focus. When using autofocus, that ring can be used for other functions. Via a Custom Switch you can set that turning the ring adjusts the aperture. Samyang says more features will be added later with firmware updates. Users can update the firmware with an optionally available Samyang Lens Station.
Samyang’s 75mm f/1.8 for Sony cameras weighs 230 grams and is 69mm long. This makes the lens a lot more compact than Sony’s own 85 mm f/1.8. It is 82mm long and weighs 371 grams. Samyang’s alternative is also cheaper. Sony itself does not have a 75 mm lens in its range.
According to the South Korean manufacturer, the 75mm f/1.8 lens offers good corner-to-corner image quality through the use of two aspherical lens elements and three ed lens elements. The design consists of ten elements in nine groups and the glass is provided with Samyang’s Ultra Multi Coating. The lens uses a new stepping motor, which, according to Samyang, enables fast and quiet autofocus. The minimum focusing distance is 69 centimeters.
The 75mm f/1.8 lens is Samyang’s ninth autofocus lens in the series for Sony cameras. Since 2017, the manufacturer has released lenses in that series with focal lengths of 14, 18, 24, 35, 45, 50 and 85 mm. According to the importer of Samyang in the Benelux, the new lens will be available soon.
