Samsung will provide ‘certain’ phones in the A-series and smartwatches from the Galaxy Watch4 with updates for longer. Previously, the A smartphones received security updates for a maximum of four years, this will be five. The smartphones also get longer upgrades.

At the launch of the Galaxy S22 series on Wednesday, Samsung said Z and S smartphones from the S21 series and Tab S tablets will receive five years of security updates and four Android upgrades. The company now also says it will provide “certain new” A-phones with four upgrades and five years of security updates. It is not yet known which smartphones this will be. It will probably be the more expensive A-models.

In addition, the company also promises to provide Galaxy Watch products with upgrades for ‘up to’ four years, previously this was three years. It is not clear how long smartwatches will be provided with security updates. It should also be noted that Samsung uses the words “up to four years of upgrades” and thus does not promise that the smartwatches will actually get four upgrades. In any case, the Galaxy Watch4 and the Watch4 Classic will receive upgrades for up to four years, as well as upcoming Galaxy Watch devices.
