Samsung plans to refurbish high-end devices and resell them at a lower price. This concerns devices of users with a contract under which they receive a new telephone every year. Reuters writes that on the basis of a source.

According to the source, the program with refurbished phones should start next year, the news agency writes. There are devices from users from the US and South Korea, it is unclear whether devices from European users are also eligible and whether Samsung will also sell the used devices in the Benelux. The source was also unable to provide information about the amount of the discount that Samsung wants to offer on the phones. The question of whether the smartphones will be equipped with new parts also remained unanswered. This is normally part of the refurbishing process.

The decision could help boost Samsung’s sales at a time when the smartphone market is becoming saturated, Reuters reported. For example, Apple also offers a program under which it sells refurbished devices. The company does this, among other things, in Europe with iPads and iPods. In India, it is a way for Apple to introduce its devices to that market at a lower price. Such programs also help compete with cheaper Chinese alternatives, Reuters said.
