Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy A6 and A6+. Both devices have an extended OLED screen and at least 3GB of RAM. The larger plus model has a higher resolution and a dual camera on the back.

The Galaxy A6 has a 5.6″ screen with HD+ resolution; the larger A6+ has a full HD+ resolution. The screen ratio is 18.5:9, just like the Galaxy A8 released at the beginning of this year. Samsung does not mention which socs are in the new models; the manufacturer only releases that they are octacores.

According to previously leaked information, the Galaxy A6 has an Exynos 7870-soc and there is a Snapdragon 450 from Qualcomm in the Galaxy A6+. Samsung releases the midrange smartphones with 3 or 4 GB of ram and 32 or 64 GB of storage. The specifications vary by country. It is not yet clear which configurations will come to the Benelux.

Samsung provides the Galaxy A6+ with a dual camera on the back. The primary camera has a 16-megapixel resolution and an f/1.7 aperture; the second camera is used for depth-of-field effects and has a five-megapixel resolution.

Both devices have a fingerprint scanner on the back and run on Android 8.0 with Samsung’s own skin on top. The smartphones will be on sale from the end of May: the Galaxy A6 for a suggested retail price of 309 euros and the A6+ for 369 euros.
