“Samsung will deliver fewer own apps with Galaxy S6”

Samsung would largely offer its own Android apps with the upcoming Galaxy S6 as optional downloads instead of installing them by default. In doing so, the smartphone manufacturer is responding to the trend to omit so-called ‘bloatware’.

Sammobile reports that the Touchwiz interface of the Galaxy S6 is being considerably slimmed down. Samsung would have decided to omit various own apps in the standard supplied firmware of the device. According to Sammobile, the Korean electronics manufacturer wants to offer its own apps and the underlying services largely optionally in the form of a download.

By reducing so-called ‘bloatware’, Samsung would follow the trend of providing mobile phones that run on Android with fewer pre-installed apps. It is still unclear to what extent Samsung would omit apps; apps such as S-Health and specific apps for a certain device will probably remain.

According to some users of Samsung mobiles, the apps from the manufacturer, which are not always actively used, provide a too slow interface and take up unnecessary storage capacity. Competitors of Samsung supply devices with fewer own apps than Samsung or supply the mobiles with ‘stock’ Android.
