‘Samsung wants to equip all household appliances with an NPU from 2024’

Samsung reportedly plans to equip all new home appliances with a neural processing unit from 2024. The company’s Home Appliances division is said to be working on integrating an NPU chip, which is reportedly being developed by DeepX.

Those involved say opposite DigiTimes that Samsung is using AI applications for smart devices in this way, including smart TVs, dishwashers, ovens, refrigerators and air conditioners. For example, the website mentions the detection of the contents of a smart refrigerator. Tom’s Hardware reasons furthermore, that NPUs in the relevant devices can contribute to, among other things, voice recognition and the integration of Bixby and SmartThings.

According to the medium, the South Korean company DeepX is working on the L3 NPU. This chip should be released in 2024 and would be responsible for implementing AI applications. For the time being, Samsung itself has not communicated anything about the standard processing of NPUs in household appliances. In recent years, the brand has regularly released devices with smart functions. They have several smart refrigerators, including the above Bespoke Refrigerator Family Hub Plus, which have a screen, Bixby support, and smart home integration via SmartThings.
