Samsung has filed a lawsuit against Nvidia for patent infringement. With a lawsuit, the Korean manufacturer hopes to enforce a sales ban on the chips that the company sells. The lawsuit is a response to a lawsuit Nvidia filed against Samsung.

According to Bloomberg news agency, Samsung has filed suit with the International Trade Commission. This American authority has the option, among other things, to impose a sales ban in the United States in the event of patent infringement. According to Samsung, Nvidia’s chips infringe patents; It is not yet clear which products are involved, but it will probably mainly concern the GeForce GPUs and Tegra SOCs. A sales ban would also affect manufacturers who use Nvidia’s products.

Samsung probably wants to respond to a lawsuit previously filed by Nvidia with the lawsuit. Nvidia accuses Samsung of violating its patents in its Galaxy smartphones and also hopes to enforce a sales ban. Samsung filed a lawsuit against Nvidia in a US court earlier this month. Responding to a complaint by filing a counterclaim yourself is common practice at technology companies.

Because the exact complaint that Samsung filed with the ITC was not immediately available, it is not yet clear which patents are being presented in the lawsuit. The case is still classified as confidential on the ITC site. In the earlier lawsuit that Samsung filed, eight patents were mentioned and these would be infringed by Nvidia with its Shield tablet.
