Samsung to start production 49″ panel for 3840×1080 monitor in September
Samsung will start in September with the production of large curved VA panels for the production of monitors with an extra wide screen ratio, according to TFT Central. It is a 49″ panel with a resolution of 3840×1080 pixels and a 44″ variant with 3840×1200 pixels.
The 49″ panel has an aspect ratio of 32:9. This makes the screen as wide as two 16:9 monitors side by side. The resolution is called dfhd, which stands for double full-hd. The va panel has a contrast ratio of 5000:1, a refresh rate of 144Hz and support for FreeSync and G-Sync. There will also be a slightly smaller variant: a 44″ panel with a 29:9 ratio and a resolution of 3840×1200 pixels. This is also a curved VA panel with a 5000:1 contrast ratio. There would be versions with refresh rates of 60Hz and 144Hz.
Samsung also comes with a 40″ panel with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. For this screen, the South Korean manufacturer also uses a VA panel with a curvature of 1800R. The contrast ratio is 3000:1. Production is due to start in August. to go.
In addition, TFT Central has published new information about upcoming panels from AU Optronics. That manufacturer comes with different HDR panels. There will be an edge-backlight variant in 32″ format with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. A second variant will be available in curved 35″ format with a resolution of 3440×1440 pixels. Both panels use the VA technique and have eight backlight areas, with a peak brightness of 600cd/m2. Production is expected to start in the third quarter.
AUO also comes with panels with full-array backlight. The M270QAN02.2 is a 27″ AHVA panel with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels, which has a backlight with 384 zones. For HDR display, the peak brightness is 600 to 1000cd/m2 and the refresh rate is 144Hz. The specifications correspond to the Asus ROG Swift PG27UQ monitor, which should hit the market in Q3. The AUO panel should go into production in July. A 32″ variant of the panel is expected to follow in Q4.
Production of AUO’s M270DRT01.0 panel will also start in July. That is a curved 27 “tn panel with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels and a refresh rate of 165Hz.
The information about the new panels comes from TFT Central, a website known for its good resources within the monitor industry. For example, in early 2016, the website announced that LG was working on a 37.5″ panel, before LG announced its monitor with that panel. Even then, there was already talk about the 32:9 panel from Samsung.
TFT Central has added the details about the new panels to its database. Exact names or serial numbers of the display panels are not yet known. It is also not yet clear when monitors with the new panels will actually come on the market.
