Samsung will introduce the first monitors with AMD’s FreeSync in March 2015, and will then equip all UHD models with the technology. The adoption of Nvidia’s G-Sync counterpart follows integration into the displayport standard by VESA.

In March 2015, Samsung’s UD590 line of 23.6″ and 28″ models will receive FreeSync support, along with the UE850 models with 23.6″, 27″ and 31.5″ diagonals. Samsung displays support AMD’s standard, AMD and Samsung announced during AMD’s Future of Compute event in Singapore.

FreeSync is an open counterpart to Nvidia’s G-Sync. The technology ensures that the display and video card or APU with dynamic refresh rate work completely synchronously so that no more tearing occurs and the stuttering that occurs due to the repeating frames in v-sync is prevented. Nvidia’s G-Sync achieves the same with a hardware module that display manufacturers have to license.

In May, VESA included FreeSync under the name Adaptive Sync in the displayport 1.2a standard, although implementation of the technology is not mandatory.
