Samsung to demonstrate ‘5G technology’ with 1ms latency

Samsung will be the first to demonstrate a possible 5g technology next week, with which it will send eight 4k videos simultaneously through the air with a latency of up to one millisecond. That is not possible with 4G for the time being.

Samsung uses signals with a frequency above 6GHz, according to the announcement of the South Korean manufacturer. This should make it possible to achieve speeds that are high enough to send the eight 4k videos simultaneously. It is a gigabit connection, says Samsung. The demonstration will take place at the Mobile World Congress telecom fair in Barcelona.

The low latency is especially important, as it will probably be one of the most important improvements in 5g. The latency of 4G is too high for, for example, communication between self-driving cars, which must have almost direct communication lines due to high speeds.

In addition, Samsung will give a demonstration at the telecom fair next week of transmitting signals from antenna to antenna at extremely high frequencies, between 30 and 300GHz, with a device the size of a smartphone. Current 4G networks operate at 0.8 to 2.6GHz and 5GHz will be added soon.

Samsung is one of the many companies that will give demonstrations of possible techniques for 5G at the telecom exchange. While there are already many demonstrations, 5g is not yet an established set of technologies. That will happen in a few years, after which people will be able to use 5g networks and compatible devices from 2020.
