Samsung has teased Galaxy AI, a set of techniques based on artificial intelligence, for its One UI software in 2024. One of the features is in the Phone app and shows users live translations of what is being said.

When using AI Live Translate Call, a translated transcription will appear on screen, while translated audio can also be heard, reports Samsung. This works completely locally and the text does not leave the phone, the manufacturer claims. The AI runs completely locally for the function.

This does not apply to all functions of Galaxy AI. These features are “powered by both on-device AI developed at Samsung and cloud-based AI powered by our open collaboration with like-minded industry leaders.”

Samsung therefore opts for the same strategy as Google, which runs some services on the phone for AI functions in its Pixel 8 and requires an internet connection for others. It is obvious that these services will make their debut on the Galaxy S24. Samsung would like to present it in January next year.
