Samsung has ended its testing program for Linux on DeX. The manufacturer informs users that Android 10 does not support the functionality that allowed various Linux distributions to run on smartphones.

Samsung’s Linux on DeX team has emailed beta participants informing them that the program will be discontinued and future software and devices will no longer support it. In addition, the team reports that Samsung’s Android 10 beta does not include the feature and users will not be able to rollback to Android 9 Pie after updating.

Linux on DeX has its roots in Linux on Galaxy, which the company unveiled in 2017 with the arrival of the Galaxy. The feature allowed users to run Linux desktop environments such as Ubuntu 16.04 LTS for ARM64 from a smartphone. The test program, which never left the beta stage, was primarily intended for developers.

DeX allows users to connect their smartphone to a monitor, keyboard and mouse for use in a desktop environment. Initially, a DeX Station and DeX Pad accessory was required for this, but with the Galaxy Note 9 and later devices, the technology also works via an HDMI to USB cable.
