Samsung has announced that it has started mass production of 1TB eUFS memory modules for smartphones. Previously, that capacity could only be achieved with multiple modules or by expanding the memory with a micro-SD card.

With the new 1TB embedded Universal Flash Storage, the smartphone gets “the same storage capacity as a premium notebook, without the user having to invest in an extra memory card”, according to Samsung. Samsung states that this is useful because users can store more 4k videos, for example.

At 11.5x13mm, the chip is the same size as the previous version of 512GB. It is a 1TB memory module that consists of sixteen layers of 512Gbit memory chips. The eUFS storage achieves read speeds of up to 1000MB/s and write speeds of up to 260MB/s. The random reading speed is 38 percent higher than with the 512GB eUFS from Samsung.

On February 20, Samsung will most likely present its new Galaxy S10. It is not inconceivable that the company will also announce a more expensive model of this flagship equipped with the new 1TB eUFS.
