Samsung has started mass production of 12GB lpddr4x packages for mobile devices such as smartphones. In the second half of the year, Samsung plans to triple the production of 8GB and 12GB modules.

Samsung makes the 12GB module by combining six 16Gbit lpddr4x chips in a single package. The offer follows that of 8GB modules, which Samsung has been producing on a large scale since July last year. Apart from the capacity, the other properties have remained the same: it is a package with a total throughput speed of 34.1GB/s, made up of 16Gbit chips that are produced using Samsung’s 10-class process of the second generation. The modules have a thickness of 1.1 millimeters.

To meet the expected growing demand, Samsung plans to “more than triple” production of the 8GB and 12GB modules at its chip factory in Pyeongtaek, Korea in the second half of this year. Samsung already uses the 12GB module for its Galaxy S10+ and the upcoming Galaxy Note 10 will probably also be equipped with it.
