Samsung starts delivery of 850 Evo 4TB SSDs
Samsung has started shipping 850 Evo SSDs with a capacity of 4TB. The 2.5 “ssd has appeared in the Pricewatch for a price of 1349 euros. The higher storage capacity is possible through the use of 3d-nand.
Samsung already announced in September last year that SSDs in the 850 series with a capacity of 4TB would appear in early 2016. Without Samsung itself publicizing it, the 850 Evo 4TB has now been released and can be seen in the Pricewatch.
A 4TB version of the Samsung 850 Pro SSD in 2.5″ format will probably follow shortly. The Korean manufacturer also announced that it would come last year. However, no prices are yet known for this high-end SSD.
The 4TB SSDs contain Samsung’s third-generation 3D Nand memory with chips that consist of 48 layers. As a result, chips of 256Gb can be made. That’s double the second-generation 3d V-nand, which has chips with 128Gb capacity with 32 layers. The new chips will also find their way to an m2 variant of the 850 Evo with a capacity of 1TB. Currently, the SSDs in that series are for sale in variants with storage capacity up to 500GB.
