Samsung shows wireless charger for phones with built-in smart home controls
Samsung has unveiled the SmartThings Station, a device that users can use to activate smart home routines. The device can also serve as a wireless charger for telephones.
The SmartThings Station can charge phones with up to 15W, says Samsung. In addition, the housing has a button that users can press once, twice, double or long. Double-pressing the button takes users to SmartThings Find, which lets them find devices in their home by making them make sounds.
The rest of the actions can be assigned via the SmartThings app. This makes it possible to assign routines to the button, such as a routine to turn off the lights and lower the thermostat before someone goes to bed. The Station works with Matter and can therefore work with devices and software from many suppliers, says Samsung. The device will be released in South Korea and the US and will cost $60, or $80 with a USB-C adapter. says The Verge.
