Samsung shows round Gear S2 smartwatch

Samsung showed a glimpse of a new smartwatch on Thursday at the Unpacked 2015 event in New York. Rumors have been circulating for some time about the arrival of the Gear S2, codenamed Project Orbis. It is the successor to the Gear S that came out at the end of 2014.

The Gear S was an odd one out at the time with its curved screen. The Gear S2 was only shown via a teaser video and seems to follow the traditional watch shape. The housing has a metallic look and the display is round. The gem gets a completely new interface and runs on Samsung’s Tizen OS.

The fact that it is not an Android smartwatch is partly due to the fact that the icons are set in a circle, like the numbers on the dial of a classic wristwatch. Despite more of the device now being shown, the public still got only a glimpse.

The suspected Gear S successor probably contains an Exynos processor with a maximum clock speed of 1.2 GHz. It is also conceivable that the working memory is 768MB in size with a storage capacity of 4GB.
