Samsung shows its thinnest smartphone to date

Samsung has shown its thinnest smartphone to date with the Galaxy A7. The A7 has a thickness of 6.3 mm, thinner than the 6.7 mm of the Galaxy A5 and Alpha, among others. It is by no means the thinnest smartphone announced so far.

The thinnest smartphone to date is the Oppo R5 with a thickness of 4.7mm, 1.6mm thinner than the A7. In the 6.3 mm thick metal housing, Samsung has put a 2600 mAh battery in the Galaxy A7. That is a slightly smaller capacity than the 2800mAh of the battery in, for example, the Galaxy S5. The A7 has a 5.5″ screen from Samsung’s own Super Amoled line with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels.

The phone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615-soc, an octacore with eight Cortex A53 cores. Samsung showed the A7 at an event in Malaysia, SoyaCincau reports. The phone falls in the same Galaxy A series as the previously announced A3 and A5.

While the manufacturer only showed the Galaxy A7, it also announced the Galaxy Grand Max. That device has a 5.25″ screen with an undisclosed ‘HD resolution’, presumably 1280×720 pixels. The processor is a quad-core CPU at 1.2 GHz, which is probably a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410, assisted by a The phone has a 13-megapixel camera on the back, while Samsung has put a 5-megapixel camera on the front.The phone is currently available in South Korea for a price of around 245 euros.
