Samsung robot vacuum cleaner supports voice commands from Amazon Echo speaker

Samsung will show a robot vacuum cleaner that works with voice commands at CES electronics fair next week. That works via Amazon’s Echo speaker. It is unknown whether the manufacturer will later also support competitor Google Home.

The functionality to give the vacuum cleaner voice commands is compatible with all Powerbot models with on-board Wi-Fi, Samsung says. The Powerbot VR7000 is the first model that can handle voice commands. Among other things, it will be possible to put the robot vacuum cleaner to work with a voice command. It is unknown if disabling the Powerbot can also work; the speaker must then receive the command while the vacuum cleaner is on.

Samsung has built in support for the Echo, but it is unknown whether the manufacturer will also support competitor Google Home. Like Amazon, Google has a way for businesses to build their own services into the voice assistant.

In addition to the voice commands, the robot vacuum cleaner has ways to map the environment and to suck around objects 10mm or larger. In addition, it automatically adjusts the suction power to the surface, so that the device does not require more power and makes no more noise than is necessary at that moment.
