Samsung resumes Galaxy Z Flip production after temporary shutdown due to coronavirus
Samsung will resume production of the Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Fold at its Gumi factory in South Korea on Monday. Production there was halted for two days after an employee was found to be infected with coronavirus 2019-nCoV.
The factory in Gumi will open again on Monday after Samsung has disinfected it in the past two days. The department where the infected staff member worked will remain closed until Tuesday. That reported The Korea Times.
Saturday it turned out that Samsung had closed the smartphone factory in Gumi because the employee showed symptoms of illness. Samsung has largely moved its smartphone production to Vietnam, but still makes high-end devices such as the Fold and Z Flip in Gumi, which is located two hundred kilometers south of Seoul.
Samsung does not expect the temporary production stop to have a major impact on the availability of the devices and the price will not be increased, the smartphone maker promises. The company says it has the situation under control and the output of the factory is not expected to be high in any case compared to the factories in Vietnam.
However, those factories could face supply problems if the supply of parts from China falters. Meanwhile, the number of 2019 nCoV cases in South Korea is also rising. The country confirmed last weekend that 161 new infections had been detected. The total is now at 763 and 7 people have died in the country.
