Samsung replaces director of mobile division
Samsung has replaced the top boss of its mobile division. JK Shin had been the chief of the mobile branch of the South Korean conglomerate since 2009, but Samsung is now putting Koh Dong Jin there, who this year worked on the Galaxy S6 series, among other things.
Bloomberg reports on the changing of the guard and Samsung’s site states that Shin will remain in his position until March 2016. Under Shin, Samsung reached its peak so far in the mobile market around 2012, but business has been slightly different since then. less. Despite this, Samsung is still the largest smartphone maker and only Apple makes more profit from producing smartphones.
Shin was known, among other things, for the presentations he gave, in which he invariably announced a new device, despite the fact that he is not a natural presenter. He joked about this at the presentation of the Galaxy S6 Edge+ in August that speaking in front of the public is ‘his true passion’. Since Samsung has broadcast many of the presentations in its Unpacked series of announcements as live streams, many Samsung fans will have seen Shin’s presentations.
Dong-Jin Koh is currently still the head of the R&D department of the mobile division and was therefore responsible for, among other things, the designs of the Galaxy S6 series this year. It is unknown what changes he plans to make to the South Korean manufacturer’s strategy. The head of the mobile division is one of three co-CEOs of Samsung.
