Samsung removes YouTube video of GTA V mod with Note 7 as bomb
Samsung has had YouTube remove a video, which showed a GTA V mod. That mod replaces ‘sticky bombs’ with Galaxy Note 7s. Samsung has canceled the Note 7 due to the many reports of explosions from the smartphone.
The video, which had been online for several weeks, is now offline with a notice on the screen that Samsung Electronics USA has filed a copyright claim. It is unknown why the electronics giant has chosen to file a claim against the video, which gained wide popularity immediately after publication.
According to The Verge, among others, Samsung’s claim that copyright infringement is dubious to say the least. The video would not copy protected elements. In addition, the video could be considered a parody, which is subject to different copyright rules.
Despite the removal, numerous videos of the mod can still be found on YouTube, in which, for example, gamers discuss and show the modification to GTA. Moreover, the mod itself can also be downloaded from gta5-mods.com.
Samsung announced last week to stop the production and sale of the Galaxy Note 7. At the end of August, the smartphone appeared to catch fire relatively often. Samsung recalled and exchanged all copies sold so far. The exchanged copies also turned out to be sensitive to the defect, after which Samsung decided to cancel the device definitively just before the release in the Benelux.
