Samsung releases Galaxy Book S with Intel Lakefield processor – update

Samsung has released a new version of the Galaxy Book S that runs on a Lakefield processor from Intel. The laptop has WiFi 6, and eight gigabytes of RAM. Prices and availability of the device are not yet known.

The new Galaxy Book S is the same laptop as Samsung already released last year with a Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm, but with an Intel Lakefield processor. Samsung does not yet know which configurations are possible. The laptop also has 8GB of lpddr4x ram and 256GB or 512GB of eUFS storage, and a micro-SD connection. There are also two USB-C ports and a fingerprint scanner on the device. The Galaxy Book S also supports Wi-Fi 6 802.11 ax, bluetooth 5, and lte.

The laptop measures 305.2 x 203.2 x 6.2 millimeters and weighs 950 grams and has a fanless design. The housing is metal and has a clamshell design. The Galaxy Book S has a full-HD LCD of 13.3 inches. With the Outdoor mode it is possible to temporarily set the screen brightness to 600 nits.

Samsung does not write anything about availability and prices. When the laptop is delivered, it is available in a gold and gray version, and it runs on Windows 10.

Update, 30-05, 15.00: According to Tom’s Hardware it is an Intel Core i5-L16G7 and it concerns the specifications of the Korean model. Earlier it appeared that this is a processor of the Lakefield generation. The processor would have five cores, a speed of 1.4GHz and a turbo of 1.75GHz. Lakefield is Intel’s first big.Little design, combining one fast Sunny Cove core with four frugal Tremont cores. Intel also uses Foveros 3d stacking with the chip.
