Samsung releases firmware update for FreeSync on latest Qled TVs
Samsung is adding FreeSync support to its 2018 models of Qled TVs with a firmware update. The NU8000 and NU8500 models from the Premium UHD series also receive FreeSync support.
According to AMD, the update for the Samsung TVs is now available for the Qled models with sizes from 55″ to 82″. It concerns the 2018 versions of the TVs, which have a 120Hz panel and are released by Samsung in the Benelux between April and June.
Not only Qled models get FreeSync support. Some regular LCD TVs, the NU8000 and NU8500 models, also get the firmware update. The update adjusts the Gamer Mode of the Samsung TVs and automatically arrives at users.
FreeSync works with the TVs over HDMI and can be used with a PC with an AMD Radeon video card, or in combination with the Xbox One X and the One S. Microsoft recently added support for FreeSync with these consoles. The Sony PlayStation 4 console and the Pro variant also have an AMD GPU, but no FreeSync support yet. It is not yet known whether it will come.
AMD does not report what refresh rate range FreeSync works on Samsung TVs. The Qled models have a 120Hz panel and Microsoft is adding 120Hz support to the Xbox One X and One S with an update.
