Samsung releases apps to make wearables compatible with iOS
Samsung has released the Gear Fit and Gear S apps for iOS. Through those apps, recent wearables, such as the Gear S3 and S2, are compatible with iPhones. The manufacturer had previously announced compatibility for iOS.
The Gear S app works with the Gear S2 and Gear S3 Frontier and Classic, while Gear Fit was made for the Gear Fit 2. The functionality of the watches under iOS may be limited, Samsung warns, although it is unknown what those limitations consist of. In any case, the apps make it possible to install apps on the wearables and the Gear S app also has a battery monitor and battery saving function on board.
Samsung said on Thursday that its watches were compatible with iOS, but at that time the apps were not yet available and iPhone users could not get started with the Samsung wearables. The manufacturer had already said several times that Samsung would at least make the Gear S2 compatible with iOS. That first happened about a year ago.
Initially, Samsung wearables only worked with smartphones from the brand itself, but fifteen months ago, the South Korean company made its Gear S2 also work with other Android smartphones. With the Gear devices, iOS users have a choice when it comes to wearables. Several models with Android Wear already worked on iOS. Apple itself also makes watches that work with iPhones with the Apple Watch series.
