Samsung puts digital assistant Bixby on TVs
Samsung will also be putting its digital assistant Bixby on its TVs from 2018 onwards. The South Korean manufacturer announced this at CES. Samsung released Bixby last year at the same time as its Galaxy S8 smartphone.
The arrival of Bixby to Samsung TVs is no surprise, as version 2.0 supports TVs and refrigerators, among other things. In addition, the South Korean manufacturer has said it plans to run its digital assistant on many devices.
In addition to Bixby, the internet-of-things platform SmartThings will also run on TVs, presumably allowing customers to control other supported devices via the TV. It is unknown exactly how that will work. Samsung also announced Universal Guide, a way to recommend TV shows based on viewing habits.
Starting this year, the manufacturer will start selling 8k TVs that have a feature to upscale existing TV images using an algorithm. As a result, details should look better and edges should be sharper than on the original images. It concerns TVs in Samsung’s QLED line.
Samsung also showed a TV based on microLEDs at CES, which should form the successor to QLED. This is a concept, of which it is unknown when it will actually be in a TV.
