Samsung has announced the Galaxy A7 smartphone with three cameras on the back. In addition to the primary camera, the phone has a depth-estimation camera for background blur and a wide-angle lens.

The primary camera on the back has a maximum resolution of 24 megapixels and a lens with an aperture of f/1.7, Samsung says. Samsung does not mention the angle of view, but on smartphones it is usually between 70 and 75 degrees. The wide-angle lens offers an angle of view of 120 degrees. It is an f/2.4 lens with a sensor with a resolution of eight megapixels behind it. The depth-estimation camera has a 5-megapixel sensor and an f/2.3 lens. The front camera comes up to 24 megapixels, has no autofocus and has an f/2.2 lens.

The phone has a 6″ OLED screen with a surface area of 91.3 cm2 and a resolution of 2220×1080 pixels. This gives it an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. This makes the screen larger than that of, for example, the one that appeared earlier this year. Galaxy A8, which has a 5.6″ OLED screen with the same resolution.

Samsung makes no mention of the soc, except that it is an octacore with a maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz. The manufacturer is probably referring to its own Exynos 7885. That is an octacore with two Cortex A73 cores at 2.2GHz and six Cortex A53 cores at 1.6GHz, coupled to a Mali G71MP2 from ARM. The RAM has a size of 4 GB, the storage is 64 GB.

The device has a modem and other hardware that supports 4g via lte cat 6 with carrier aggregation on two frequencies. The battery has a capacity of 3300mAh. The phone measures 160x77x7.5mm and weighs 168 grams. The screen edges on the sides therefore come out at 10 mm, while Samsung leaves 23 mm at the top and bottom. The fingerprint scanner is on the side.

This year’s Galaxy A7 will be released in October in the Benelux for 349 euros. Samsung has planned an event for October 11 where it is expected to present another new Galaxy A phone. The manufacturer has not yet announced anything about this.
