Samsung presents external SSD with fingerprint scanner
Samsung has presented an external SSD with a built-in fingerprint scanner. The scanner should allow users to secure files. The SSD can transfer files at 10Gbit/s thanks to built-in support for USB 3.2 Gen 2.
There will also be a variant without a fingerprint scanner, but that will only follow later and Samsung has not yet announced prices. Users can also protect the drive with a code. The SSD encrypts files with 256-bit AES encryption.
Reading goes with a maximum of 1050MB/s, writing with a maximum of 1000MB/s, claims Samsung. This is only possible if the host also supports usb 3.2 gen 2 and uasp. The disc is 85x57x8mm in size and weighs 58 grams. The SSD works with a USB-C connection, but a cable that has a USB-A connector on the other side is also included in the box.
There will be variants with 500GB, 1TB and 2TB. Samsung will release the SSDs in February for 170 euros, 250 euros and 460 euros respectively. The version without a fingerprint scanner will be released in the spring. The predecessor T5, came out in 2017.
