Samsung has presented its first Galaxy tablet with Windows 10 at the electronics fair. The tablet has an OLED screen with a diagonal of 12 “and runs on an Intel Atom soc. It is the first time that Samsung has attached the name Galaxy to a Windows device.

Samsung mentions that the processor is a dual-core variant of Intel’s Core M and it is probably the m3-6Y30. The GPU is the Intel HD Graphics 515. This is included in a cheaper version of the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and a version of the UX305 laptop from Asus.

The 12-inch OLED screen has a resolution of 2160×1440 pixels and an aspect ratio of 3:2, with which the screen comes out at around 216 pixels per inch. The tablet is 29.0×19.9 cm in size and 6.3 mm thick. around 693 grams. The battery has a capacity of 5200mAh, which is small compared to other tablets.

Samsung will only release the WiFi variants in the Benelux and not those with 4G. The variant with Windows 10 Home costs 999 euros, the version with Windows 10 Pro should yield 1099 euros. The box contains a keyboard cover with, according to Samsung, a full-size keyboard and touchpad. The keyboard is connected to the tablet with pogo pins. The Galaxy Tab Pro S should be released in February.

The Tab Pro S is a break in the trend in Samsung’s many years of naming. The company called its Windows devices Ativ a few years ago and before that Omnia, while Galaxy remained reserved for smartphones and tablets with Android. The only exception was Samsung’s first smartwatch, which was originally called Galaxy Gear.

Samsung also announced some new variants of its Gear S2 at CES. The new version has NFC on board for mobile payments. The available colors are rose gold and platinum. The new versions will be available from February and cost from 479 euros. The current variants cost 349 and 399 euros.
