Samsung postpones introduction of Galaxy Home smart speaker again

Samsung has again postponed the introduction of its smart speaker with voice assistant Bixby, the Galaxy Home. After previous delays, the manufacturer stated that the device would be on the market in the third financial quarter, but that deadline has also passed in the meantime.

Samsung’s third financial quarter of 2019 ended on September 30, but there is no trace of the Galaxy Home as yet. Announced in August 2018, the speaker was initially supposed to hit the market as early as April this year. When that proved too optimistic, Samsung moved the introduction date to ‘the first half of 2019’ and later, through CEO Hyun-suk Kim, to ‘the middle of the second half of the year’. The Verge interprets this as ‘third quarter at the latest’ and concludes that that deadline has not been met either.

Meanwhile, in August, Samsung announced a new speaker called the Home Mini. It is a smaller version of the Galaxy Home that can be tested by South Korean owners of a Galaxy smartphone before the release. There was no mention of the original Galaxy Home during the announcement of the Home Mini, and Samsung also remained silent about the fate of the device afterwards.

The Verge has asked Samsung when the Galaxy Home will be released, but has so far received no answer. In a latest official statement, now dated August, the South Korean tech giant said it is “still refining and improving the Galaxy Home,” and that the company looks forward to “sharing more information soon.” .
