Samsung postpones Galaxy Fold release after notifications of screen defects
Samsung has indicated that the Galaxy Fold will not be released on April 26 as expected. It is clear from a statement released by the company that the release delay is due to screen issues reported by reviewers.
According to Samsung, reports from reviewers have revealed that there are problems with the screen construction that need to be improved before the Galaxy Fold is ready for the consumer market. The screen needs to be strengthened and the manual expanded to ensure that users use the screen properly.
Samsung will now first conduct additional research into the reported problems before coming up with a new release date. The company expects to be able to communicate a new date in a few weeks. An initial inspection shows that the screen defects may be caused by the stress placed on the top and bottom of the hinge when the screen is opened and closed. A “substance” in the screen could also cause problems, but Samsung did not explain that further.
It was already announced over the weekend that Samsung had canceled two planned events in China regarding the Galaxy Fold. In addition, the Korean company said it had made the decision due to problems with the owners of the venues where the event would be held, but the company denied at the time that it had anything to do with delaying the release.
The issues surfaced last week when a striking number of reviewers reported similar issues with the Galaxy Fold’s screen. Samsung announced shortly afterwards that it was investigating the reports. Samsung stated that users should not remove the pre-applied screen protector in order to prevent screen problems, something that is also stated in the manual.
