Court documents show that Samsung paid an amount of 800 million euros to Microsoft last year for the use of its patents. In the lawsuit, Samsung is accused of withholding $ 6.9 million in interest.

Microsoft’s lawsuit against Samsung was filed in court in August. According to Microsoft, Samsung was late in paying royalties for the use of patents. In the recently revealed court documents discovered by Re/code, Microsoft claims that in 2013, it received a billion dollars, or 800 million euros, from Samsung for the use of patents. This means that the royalties account for a substantial share of Microsoft’s turnover.

With the lawsuit, Microsoft hopes to enforce a payment of $ 6.9 million, about 5.5 million euros. Samsung would have systematically transferred the royalty payments too late to Microsoft, as a result of which the latter claims to be entitled to withheld interest.

Microsoft has signed patent deals with a large number of companies in the smartphone industry. It mainly concerns companies that make Android devices; from many companies, including Samsung, Microsoft receives a certain amount per smartphone sold. As a result, the Redmond-based company has billions of dollars in additional revenue.
