Samsung may come with a foldable full-HD tablet
According to the Korean site Daum, Samsung is developing a tablet with an 8″ or 9″ OLED screen that can be folded twice. The screen would also have a full HD resolution.
According to Daum, the lead of the project is currently in the hands of a person who was also at the cradle of the Galaxy S series. Prototypes of the product are also said to have been made. In a roadmap from Samsung that came online last year, it says that the company expects to come with foldable screens by the end of 2015. Before that, the South Korean company still has a number of technical hurdles to overcome. In October of 2012, Samsung also received a patent for a smartphone with a screen that can be flipped over twice.
It is also currently unclear how Android will respond to devices with a folding screen, since the operating system was not developed for it. However, NEC’s fold-out Medias W N-05E, which came out in early 2013, offers the option of running an app separately on each of its two screens. It is also possible to display an app on both screens.
Samsung has been developing bendable screens for some time now. In May 2013, for example, it received a design patent for a tablet with a bendable screen and in April this year it announced that it would invest 4.15 billion euros in the production of flexible OLED screens.
